The lack of “usability” in common EHR solutions was the primary reason this author left a good paying job with a young family, committed himself to premature grey hair, and became an “entrepreneur” in the creation of simplifyMD.  Four years and more than 40 Million electronic medical records later, we think we’re on to something.

Today, most of what I read about “usability” borders on it becoming the newest “buzzword,” a lot of talk, but very little action.  Or, if you grew up where I did, all hat and no cattle.

There are two ways to determine the return on investment when considering implementing an electronic health record (EHR) software system into your practice.  There is the traditional ROI analysis that will measure benefits versus cost, but I challenge you to think beyond system features, training costs and the price tag for just a moment.
